Ed is a partner at Hudson Gavin Martin, a specialist technology, media and IP law firm. Ed has 25 years’ experience advising clients on technology and IP development, commercialisation, protection and procurement. Ed has worked with businesses across various industry sectors (both customers and vendors) and has numerous clients offering technology solutions. In addition to his law degree, he has a commerce degree majoring in the design and development of Information Systems, so understands the technical, business and legal issues involved in technology projects.
Ed is also the CIO/CISO at Hudson Gavin Martin where he is responsible for the firm’s technology infrastructure, security and strategy. Part of this role involves comprehensive vendor due diligence during the procurement of technology solutions to ensure the firm complies with its regulatory, contractual and other obligations, which is only becoming more important with the proliferation of AI tools.
Passionate about giving back to the legal profession and technology sector, Ed is a committee member of The Law Association Technology Law Committee, NZ IoT Alliance, and the NZ Middle East Business Council. He has also served on the committees of the NZ Software Association and NZ Game Developers Association. Ed’s highlight each year is his involvement as a judge for the NZ Hi-Tech awards.
