LawFest 25: A Powerhouse of Legal Innovation and Inspiration

On 6 March, over 400 legal professionals from across Aotearoa and beyond came together in Auckland for LawFest 2025, the premier event for legal innovation and technology in New Zealand. With an electric atmosphere, the conference once again delivered an inspiring mix of cutting-edge insights, practical strategies, and invaluable networking opportunities.

With technology evolving at a breakneck pace, LawFest once again proved to be the ultimate forum for legal professionals to stay ahead. Generative AI dominated discussions, with experts exploring how it is revolutionizing the legal industry—enhancing efficiency, transforming service delivery, and creating exciting new opportunities.

Speakers that delivered big ideas & bold insights

The programme was packed with game-changing speakers, each bringing unique expertise and forward-thinking ideas to the table.

Frances Valintine CNZM set the tone with an eye-opening keynote, urging attendees to embrace AI’s transformative power while balancing ethical and responsible adoption. She painted a compelling picture of how the legal profession must evolve to keep pace with the new world of business.

Nick Abrahams delivered one of the most engaging sessions, breaking down exactly how AI is reshaping legal practice. He shared real-world examples of AI solutions that are already delivering results for in-house teams and law firms, while also highlighting the human skills that will remain crucial in an AI-powered legal landscape.

Kate Dillon inspired attendees to tap into their “intrapreneurial” spirit, equipping them with the mindset and tools to drive innovation within their own firms. She encouraged legal professionals to think creatively, challenge the status quo, and seize opportunities to implement meaningful change.

Peter Connor challenged the popular notions of innovation and transformation. His insights reframed the typical challenge/approach from ‘the efficient delivery of legal services’ to ‘how might we provide clients with the outcomes they need with minimal to no lawyer involvement’ – all so that lawyers, and others, can focus on doing different, more impactful work.

Fiona McLay tackled the realities of legal tech adoption, debunking the myth that technology alone is a silver bullet. Instead, she offered practical strategies for integrating tech in a way that truly enhances client service, increases job satisfaction, and future-proofs legal businesses.

And so much more…

Beyond the individual sessions, LawFest 25 brought fresh and exciting new sessions to the event.

Two dynamic panel discussions featured leading legal minds debating the future of legal services and those working differently to disrupt the traditional model. These discussions provided practical takeaways for firms and professionals looking to stay competitive.

The all-new “Tech Talks” format was a hit, offering fast-paced, real-world insights from legal professionals who have successfully leveraged legal tech solutions. Speakers shared the why, what, how, and lessons learned from their experiences, providing actionable inspiration for attendees.

The expo was buzzing with energy, featuring 40+ exhibitors showcasing the latest legal tech solutions. Attendees got to see firsthand cutting-edge tools, discovering how they could streamline workflows, enhance client service, and drive efficiency.

Once again, LawFest delivered beyond expectations, offering a perfect blend of inspiration, education, and networking. Whether attendees were tech-savvy pioneers or just starting their legal innovation journey, there was something for everyone.

For those serious about leveraging technology, adapting to change, and leading the future of law, LawFest remains the go-to event—and 2025 proved exactly why!
